Keeping the Covid-19 Vaccine at Temperature
The first public Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine in the world has been given today to 90-year-old Margaret Keenan at the University Hospital Coventry as part of the mass vaccination program in the UK. This is the first of 800,000 doses that will be given in the coming weeks.
Applied Integration (AI) is proud to work closely with the University Hospital Coventry for over 12 years helping maintain critical power to their vital systems.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, AI upgraded the power management system which monitors incoming mains electric supplies and secures power to the super hospital’s critical systems such as ICU wards, Neo Natal facilities, Covid19 ventilator systems and refrigeration facilities that keep the keep the COVID-19 vaccine cool.
In the event of a power supply fault, the power management system starts the backup power generators and intelligently returns back up power to critical systems within seconds of fault detection. Once all life critical facilities are operational, the power management system then strategically returns power to non-essential systems with remaining generator capacity.
Garry Lofthouse, CEO at Applied Integration says, “Upgrading and testing a live, working hospital is extremely demanding but the added Covid-19 restrictions presented further challenges. The whole team worked above and beyond to get the system installed and tested on time. We are delighted to be able to work alongside Coventry Hospital”.
