Rajant Kinetic Mesh® Networks for Autonomous Ports

An increasing number of ports worldwide are adapting to autonomous processes to improve safety and increase efficiency. However, ports are some of the most challenging environments to maintain reliable wireless communication that autonomous systems require.

Large metal containers and equipment found in shipyards, such as cranes, block RF signals resulting in loss of Wi-Fi connection which leads to autonomous systems failing. Radars, ships, and neighbouring ports can also cause signal interference. Designing Wi-Fi or LTE systems around a moving port is not practical as they rely heavily on fixed infrastructure.

The answer? Rajant Kinetic Mesh.

Rajant provides resilient coverage port wide without any drop offs. Rajant wireless network nodes are fully mobile and work peer-to-peer. When Rajant Breadcrumbs® are installed on moving assets, such as vehicles and robots, they create a wireless network that enables machine-to-machine (M2M) communication taking connectivity with them wherever they go. Rajant nodes work together to connect and communicate around port obstructions maintaining mission-critical coverage.

With Rajant’s unique Kinetic Mesh, port operations can become smarter, more autonomous, and more mobile because the network itself is intelligent, self-optimising, and uniquely able to support machine-to-machine communications between equipment on the move.

Rajant BreadCrumb radio nodes are easily installed on fixed and moving assets. Nodes hold multiple connections over multiple frequencies, simultaneously creating hundreds of potential paths to direct traffic. Rajant InstaMesh® continuously evaluates all paths to select the fastest for connectivity delivery. If a node goes down, then it will automatically switch to the next best available path.

Rajant nodes also act as hotspots for Wi-Fi access enabling port-wide IIoT connectivity. This means workers can connect tablets, and operators can access asset management throughout the port.
